Dr. Obaro Ejimiwe (Ghostpoet) is a British-Nigerian interdisciplinary artist working across sound, performance, photography, moving image and deep listening.
His practice moves between music, visual art and conversation, guided by an enduring interest in memory, identity, place and the unseen forces that shape everyday life.
Rooted in his Nigerian and Dominican heritage, his work carries a distinct, searching quality that has drawn critical acclaim, including Mercury Prize nominations for his debut album Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholy Jam (2011) and his third album Shedding Skin (2015).
Across five albums and two EPs, his musical output traces an evolving path through genre and feeling, lingering on themes of urban isolation, existential drift and the quiet weight of being human. In 2021, his practice expanded into visual art, moving through installation, photography and sound. Since then, his work has continued to unfold in different directions, guided as much by instinct as intention.
In 2025, Obaro was awarded an honorary doctorate by Coventry University, making him a Doctor of the Arts(Hon DArts) in recognition of his extensive contribution to the arts.
